Due to the consequences of WWII, Albert Einstein decided to take matters into his own hands and travel back in time with technology that he developed to meet and eliminate a young Adolf Hitler. But things didn’t go exactly as planned, since now without Hitler around, Stalin directed the Soviet army on a mission to conquer Europe. This is the plot of one of the greatest real-time strategy games that have ever existed called the Command and Conquer: Red Alert saga.
If you want to know more about C&C or relive the experience of playing it again, you can do it for free now! But first, let us give you a quick rundown on these awesome titles.
Command and Conquer: Red Alert 1
The title that started it all; alongside Dune II and Warcraft II, pretty much defined the genre called real-time strategy, in which the gamer has to create a base, gather resources, train units, and control them in real-time to destroy as many enemies as you can. These are the basics of the game, but it doesn’t stop here; you have two different game modes to play.
In Command and Conquer: Red Alert, it's possible to choose to play on the Allied side of the Soviet side; each one of these is excellent and lots of fun and is conformed of 14 missions, in which you see a room full of people interacting with each other to develop the plot of the history. The main characters are of course Joseph Stalin on the Soviet side and Tanya Addams a bold strategist in charge of directing the troops.
Like in many other games of this genre you’ll have an overhead view of a mostly black map, in which you have to create your base and train your units. Each side has its own strengths and weaknesses, since allies use strategy and stealth to win the battle, while soviets rely on brute force. This is a great game with almost flawless gameplay that has stuck in the heart of gamers for generations.
Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2
After the big success of the first title of this saga, it was only logical that the people at Westwood would come up with another title for this specific saga that, we have to admit, was lighter than its predecessor, but it’s still a great RTS game.
Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2 happens 50 years after the victory of the allies, in which they managed to put a minion of their cause as the premier of the Soviet Union, but weird things started to happen when they suddenly stopped receiving news from the country. It turns out that a powerful Soviet psychic called Yuri advised the Romanov to launch a huge invasion on American and European soil.
If you haven’t played this sequel, stop everything that you are doing right now and go straight to enjoy the 24 missions available in the Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2, 12 for each faction. Probably the best thing about this title is the improved graphics and all the new futuristic units and buildings like weather control devices, cloning vats, teleporting Chrono legionaries, and more.
Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2 – Yuri’s Revenge
Is Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2 – Yuri’s Revenge the best expansion pack for an already great game that we have ever played? Well, we don’t want to look too excited, but it actually is, and a lot of people agree with us.
This expansion pack comes with a lot of great extra features to enjoy the original games like 14 new missions, 7 for each faction, and a whole new faction called the Yuri army, in which you can find all kinds of mind-controlled units with great technologies designed by the mastermind Yuri which only desire is to rule the world as the ultimate commander by brainwashing the entire population.
Even though the third faction doesn’t offer single-player content, you can test Yuri’s army on the multiplayer game modes, and let us tell you, it’s absolutely awesome. So, remember, you can now play C&C Red Alert and Red Alert 2 for free! Go ahead and download it right now!
